WOODVILLE, February The Woodville District jockey Guo’s meeting was concluded to-day inffine weathere. There was a large attendance and some good racing was witnessed. The sum of £4344 was passed through the machine, making a total of £8360 for the meeting. This'"amount is £1165 less than was put through last year. There were several close finishes and Gallagher was riding in his best form. Following are the results :

The Dunedin Jockey Club was favoured with splendid weather for the opening day of the Dunedin Cup meeting. At one time in the afternoon the sky became very overcast, but no rain fell. The attendance was large being ,a record for the Wingatui couyse. The racing was exce - lent, and the handicapping of Mr A. Dowse resulted in very exciting fiiusaes between the leaders in almost every race The Hon G. McLean had a touch of hard luck iu running three splendid seconds. Many believe that but for Strathnairn carrying Pamporo away in tlie Cup race, the colt would have won. As it was he was only defeated by a short head. Had "Brisa got away with the leading division in the Publicans’ Handicap, the result might have been different. After seeming almost hopelessly out of she came with a fine run. and ran the winnei to a short head. ‘ Paladin broke his leg in the Cup race, and had to be destroyed. The course was in no way responsible tor this. The sum of £6BBI was put through the totalisator, as against £7948 for the corresponding meeting last year. Going out of the straight Strathnairn left his stable companion, and at the s§ven furlong post had headed the son of St. Clair. Paladin and Nihilist were next, four lengths off with Glenaladale and Tortulla still lying last. Coming to the five furlongs post. Pampero reasserted himself, Jupiter running into third plape before the home turn was reached. . Strathnairn faded out of the contest and Jupiter got within slinking distance of Pampero. Both battled out every remaining inch of ground. Pampero’s rider appearing to be unable to. get full control of his -whip. Fifty ..yards from home Jupiter got iris nose in front, and passed the judge’s chair a short half head to the good,with Nihilist and Glenaladale almost locked together three lengths behind the favourite; then came Strathnairn, Cameo and Tortulla.
