CHINA AND THE POWERS
LONDON, February 24. A force of Chinese regulars attacked a detachment of.fifty Germans westward of Pao-ting-fu, on Thursday. The Germans fought a rearguard action, one man being killed and seven men wounded. The Chinese casualties numbered two hundred. LONDON, February 25. Prince Chun, brother of the Emperor., states that since China has complied with all requirements excepting in regard to indemnities, which have not yet been fixed, tbe Powers ought to evacuate Pekin, so as to enable the Oonrt to return thither. LONDON, February 25. Sir Robert Hart, Director of the Chinese Imperial Maritime Customs, has forwarded ho the Foreign Ministers at Pekin a strong protest against the seizure by the representatives of Austria, France, Germany and Italy of the Maritime Customs at Pekin, which he claims as virtually his own property.
