DATE OF THE ELECTIONS.
MELBOURNE, February 14. Sir George Turner states that the Federal elections will be held in the last week in March. An inter-State Conference of permanent heads of the postal departments is arranging for the transfer of the business to the Federal Government. The Hon E. Barton addressed a monster gathering at the Town Hall. The Hons A. Deakin, Sir George Turner and J. G. Drake were present. The speeches were in a great measure a repetition of former ones. . MELBOURNE, February 15. In his speech last night, Mr Barton, the Federal Premier, favoured citizen soldiers being employed, for Federal defence. He added that the people would have to siupport the Ministry in getting eight to eight and a-half millions of revenue before they talked too loudly about- Freetrade and Protection. PERTH, February 15. The Hon G. Throssell has been sworn in as State Premier and Treasurer. He will also continue at present to administer the lands. SYDNEY, February 16. The Federal Cabinet has authorised the issue of writs for holding the Queensland federal election on March 30tk. The dates of the elections in the other colonies are not yet fixed. SYDNEY, February 17. It is possible that the West Australian Federal elections will be held oil the same day as in Queensland, March - 30tli, and in the other States on March 29t-h.
