A VICTORIAN CENTENARIAN.
The claim to fame of the original of the accompanying portrait is “three centuries.” Not tliat he lias lived even the half of that time, but he was born on December 13, 1799, and so has lived through one century and seen the end and dawn of two others. Mr John Jones is the old gentleman’s name, and he resides at Sebastopol, Victoria, and is as hale and hearty, apparently, as at any other time of his life. A proposal has been made, it is stated, to hand Mr Jc i -cs’s name and reputation down to posterity. The idea is to put his photo on sale, and whatever the result to apply it to obtaining a. fine enlargement. This
enlargement, it is proposed, should be hung in the local Council Chamber, over the mantelpiece, jor at least in a conspicuous position. How Mr Jones,would serve Sebastopol in that way is easily stated.. He would first of all insoire a
