The usual monthly meeting of, the Yorkshire Society was held at the Trocudero last week. Mr IT. Field in the chair. Letters • were received from his Excellency Governor his thanks for the expressions of' sympathy forwarded by the society pa the occasion •„ of the recent nationalbereavement (also acquainting’ the society of the receipt of a despatch from the Secretary of State for the Colonies acknowledging the receipt by H.R.IT. the Duke of York of the society’s invitation tr> its next dinner, but regretting that curing to the limited time available he would be unable to accept the invitation. The society voted a contribution to the fund for the proposed Queen’s statue. Messrs Trevor* and Harbottle favoured the members with some interesting reminiscences of. their recent trip to Yorkshire. Mr Helliwell promised the society a series of up-to-date sketches on the principal Yorkshire towns. Messrs Thomas Ballinger and Cowrite that the paragraph in last week s “Mail” regarding the patent bracket was somewhat misleading. They say : - Thomas Ballinger and Wm. Milligan, inventors and patentees of the “patent clip bracket,” known as the “Empire Clip Bracket/’ opposed the application of H. G. Bedell for a patent of a spring bracket, on the ground that a portion- was an infringement of their patent, and that the balance was no new invention. ’ /The application was withdrawn by Mr Hughey, who appeared for Bedell, and costs were awarded to Ballinger and Milligan, on the application of Mr Baldwin.
