A correspondent, who signs bis letter Delayed/ 5 lvrites on matters which might well be brought under the direct notice of the Postmaster-General: —I should like, he says, to draw the attention •of the telegraph authorities, through the channel of your organ, to the fact that considerable delays occur between the handing in and delivery of telegrams. It is a frequent thing, for several hours to pass between the actual time of receipt of a telegram at office where originally received and the time of completion of message. This has now been the case for some time, but lias not always been so. To the commercial community this is a serious matter, and! is frequently a hindrance to business. If the appliances in. use are surely they should be replaced with up-to-date electrical machinery. Either this is the case, or else! our telegraph, offices are under-manned. Whichever is the case, it is a matter that needs immediate attention. Another matter which would equally deserve notice is the rate now charged oil ordinary telegrams, and one which would pro ye a good exercise in our public schools. For if twelve words cost 6d, how much should twentyfour cost? • • . London Bridge is to be widened by means of granite projections on either side, at a cost of <£loo,ooo. It is said that if children are given til the honey at meal-times that they can cat. it does away with the inordinate craving for candy between meals.
