COLOURED LABOUR PROBLEAIS AIINISTERIAL POLICY. A NATIONAL PROGRAAIAIE. BRISBANE, February 13. A meeting of sugar manufacturers carried a resolution deploring Air Barton’s statement that it was intended to abolish Kanaka labour. If sanctioned by the Federal Parliament, and no other aliens are allowed to do the work, the sugar industry will be speedily extinguished. A!ELBOURNE, February 13. Air E. Barton (Federal Premier), Air C. C. Kingston (Alinister for Trade and Customs) and Air J. G. Drake (Post-master-General) addressed a large meeting last night in the Town Hall. : ' Air Barton spoke in advocacy of a transcontinental railway and the development of the Northern Territory. He promised that Bills would be introduced to effectually minimise and speedily put a stop to the introduction of.-Asia ties as distinguished fiom South Sea "Islanders, to advance by gradual steps to t> point where th© importation of Kanaka labour might be abolished. ‘ .. The National Liberal Organisation has adopted a platform which includes the steady development of Australian resources, preferential trading relations with th© Empire where possible, a “white” Australia, nationalisation',of the area of the Federal capital and to a maintenance of Australian interests abroad.
