WEIGHING BUTTER
As there has been some diversity of opinion in the colony concerning the rules for weighing butter followed in London, Messrs John Holmes and Co., of this city, recently communicated with their London agents on the subject. They have received a reply giving the following information concerning the subject : —“Packages of about 561 b to bo weighed net to half a pound; over- ' weight on marked weights cannot be included in average or charged for. Averages to be taken within three days, but on fresh and mild goods at the earliest possible time. Ten per cent, of bulk to be weighed if required by buyer or seller, but in case of hot weather not more than 5 per cent, to be taken (weighed). Packages of 561 b each and under to be weighed to half a pound; above that to be weighed to one pound; Box butters —Overweight oil boxes of uniform marked weights cannot be included in average nor charged for.” This information cannot fail to be of . interest to merchants and traders interested in the butter interest, for it clears up a subject on which a good deal of misappre- ' hension has existed.
