ST THOMAS'S FLOWER SHOW.

At Newtown G-mnasium on the 14th a flower show, organised by members of St. Thomas’s Church, was opened. There was a very good attendance of the public, and the exhibits, though slightly below last year’s average in point of number, showed a marked advance in quality. La dahlias and fuchsias some fine flowers were shown, but the exhibits of begonias were rather poor, in consequence of the season. Some pots of decorative plants of the asparagus family attracted much attention, and a ccleus with beautifully - marked leaves was similarly honoured. Petunias were exhibited in fair numbers, and with their strongly-marked colour contrasts loomed bold and striking, while an everflowering primrose provided ocular proof of the marvels of evolution. The exhibits iff ladies’ sprays were all works of art, and the judges must- have had some difficulty in arriving at their decisions as to precedence. The children’s exhibits of pot plants were fair. It is worthy of mention that three months ago the committee of the function distributed a gross of various plants to the children attending the Sunday School, and that, in consequence, a love of horticulture has been implanted in a number of tho juveniles. The vegetables exhibited were all well matured, some stalks of rhubarb being phenomenally large and solid. Carrots and beans were also well developed, the scarlet-runnel variety particularly so. The arrangements for the function were made bv the following officers, of the church: President, Rev. -O. Fitz Geral d; committee, Mesdames Broad, Walters, Lee, Harmer, Hermansen, Galloway, Misses Stevenson and Jeffery, Messrs Harmer, Bedwell, Tasker, Hey, Rawnsley, King, Hoverd, and A. H.
