Paladin caused considerable delay at the post, and, rushing through the tapes, broke them and fell. At the start Paladin led, with Skobeloff and Cameo next, Huku last. Skobeloff went to the front at Cutts’s, with Cameo, Scottish Minstrel, Paladin and Huku still last. There was little change until the top turn was reached, when Cameo ranged alongside Skobeloff, the other three lying close together. Cameo and Skobeloff fought out a splendid finish, Hewitt just- landing the latter home by a splendid piece of horsemanship, the others the same distance away. CHRISTCHURCH, February 16. The second day of the C.J-C. midsummer meeting was held to-day. There was a fair attendance. A heavy hail, storm fell just as the Champion Plate was being run. Blazer broke a bloodvessel in this race. He was very unfortunate, as there was every prospect of a good contest between him ami Menschikoff.
