Toilet Vinegar.—Yon can make this for yourself by soaking the following herbs in one pint of Avhite wine vinegar for a fortnight: Mint, sage, lavender, rosemary, verbena, thyme and marjoram, half an ounce of each. Keep closely covered, and at the end of a fortnight strain and bottle for use. A little of this rubbed over the body after bathing gives one a delightfully fresh feeling. A Substitute for Rain Water.—lf you cannot get rain water for Avashing your face, put a heaped teaspoonful of poAvdered borax in your jug even, 7 time it is filled. This softens it wonderfully, though, of course, nothing is really quite as good as rain water.

Perfumed gloves are liked by some women. Mix together 4 drops of extract of ambergris and 2oz of spirits of wine. Apply to the inside of the gloves Avith a linen rag or piece of sponge. A harmless rouge is found in the juice of the beetroot. The practice of artificially colouring the cheeks is not to be recommended, but if people will rouge, beetroot has the advantage of being simple and safe. Soot and charcoal are both excellent for Avhitening the teeth. They are, hoAvever, not good dentifrices, for if, by chance, either should get between the teeth and the gums, it would show through the latter in dark specks, A’erv much like the marks produced by tattooing. The Teeth and Mouth.—Myrrh is an unrivalled dentifrice, but it. has other qualities, and has been greatly valued from the most remote times. In some parts of Abyssinia the natives give it to their horses in cases of exhaustion of fatigue. Tincture of myrrh is excellent as a dentifrice', for it cleanses the mouth, sweetener the breath and hardens the gums. It may be used three times a AA-eek with great benefit.

A useful lotion for the complexion when the face flushes uncomfortably is made of simple tincture of benzoin, 1 drachm; tincture of hamamelis, 4 drachms; rose water, lioz; mix. Apply to the face night and morning, and before going out.
