WOODVILLE SHOW

WOODVILLE, February 7. Notwithstanding cold, showery weather, the attendance at the show yesterday was large, and the show was the most successful ever held. A. Fraser won both the championship draught classes; hacks, lost, the prize was taken by N. E. Beattie ; hacks, 13st, Mrs Jackson ; best troop horse, F. A. Piper; best lady’s hack, Strang’s Brooklyn; jumping, steeplechase style, Strang’s General; pony race, Thacker's Roany ; harness trot, Husband’s Nikau ; bnggy horse, H. Simmonds. In Shorthorns, R. Smith Avas the principal prizetaker, and he won both championships. Polled Augus, T. C. Cross and W. H. Nelson divided honours’; Ayrshire, S. W. Luxford took all prizes. Therd was a splendid exhibition of sheep. The principal exhibitors were R. E. Beattie, F. E. Perry, P. J. Quirk, R. Smith, J. H. Harris, W. H. Nelson, R. Cobb and J. Murray. The championship for rams was won by F. E. Perry, with a fine animal bred by Perry Brothers. J. H. Harris secured the championship for a ewe bred by himself. In the Romney Marsh classes, although W. B. Allen had a number of good exhibits, all the prizes were taken, by R. Cobb, who also secured all the prizes for Border Leicesters. In English Leicesters S. R. Lancaster a,nd Slack Brothers divided prizes. In Southdowns S. R. Lancaster was the only exhibitor. In the crossbred classes W. H. Nelson was the most successful exhibitor, and J. H. Monteith won the prize for the best pen of two wethers most suitable for freezing. The pig entries were large, the chief exhibitors being Slack Brothers, J. Jarvis, J. Troup and E. White.
