Air J. W. Poynton, in a lecture cn the spectroscope last week, mentioned a striking triumph of science' by which a new body and some knowledge of its nature was discovered 90,000,000 miles from where it was at the time, and a quarter of a century before it was also traced to the earth. Many years ago, the lecturer said, when the sun was being examined during an eclipse a bright green line appeared across the streak. It had never been seen before, but it was known to belong to an element not yet found on earth. It was named. Afterwards the same line was seen in the light given by Vesuvius in eruption. About six years ago the element was found in seme gases •from a spring in Norway. Surely, said the lecturer, there was never a. greater triumph in science than this. Ceylon exports 4,000,0001 b of cinnamon a year.
