LATE DAIRY NEWS
The Department of- Agriculture has received the following: cable message from the Agent-General, dated London, 4th February :—“ Average price cest butter, 108 s; market is steady. Cheese, 525; market dull. There .is a better demand for hemp—Fair current Manila, £3O 10s; good, fair Wellington, £22 10s. Stock 1221 tons against 219 tens last year. Cocksfoot, 20th standard, 33s per cwt.
Laery and Co., Ltd., report the following wholesale. selling prices ori the Wellington produce market: -—Wheat, 2s Sd per bushel; oats, 2s, 2s 2d per bushel; barley, Is lOd per bushel; maize, 3s per bushelf'flstir,'£7'per ton; pollard, £4 5s per ton; bran,' £3 10s per''ton; oatmeal, £lO per ton ; chaff, £3 5s per ten ; field bean's, 3s Id per bushel; field peas, 8s 3d; potatoes, £5 per ton; onions, £8 10s per ton; ryegrass seed, 2s 9d to 4s per bushel;, cocksfoot seed, 2-J-d to 83d per lb; butter, dairy 7d to Bd, separator Sd per lb.y .cheeie, ol : per lbj bacon, 64 d per lb; fowls, !2s 9d per pair ; roosters, 3s per pair; ducks, 3s 9d per pair: turkeys, 6s to 10s per pair ; geese, 4s 9cl per pair ; fresh, eggs, Is Id per dozen.
Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co., in conjunction with. Messrs Abraham and Williams, report on their Johnsonville sale:—Fat cattle, equal to recent numbers, sold briskly throughout, and at a small advance on last week’s prices. The quality of both cows and bullocks was good average. The former made from £0 5s to £6 17s 6d, the latter £8 15s to £9. For fat. sheep late prices ruled, with a steady demand. The bulk cf those yarded was good to prime; extra heavy ewes 15s 9d, prime 14s to 14s 6d, good 13s 4d to 13s 6d, light to medium 12s.
