EXTRAORDINARY TRAGEDY
A SELECTORS’ QUARREL
SYDNEY, Jan. 29. . A terrible shooting tragedy occured on Saturday afternoon at Mr John Ryans, selection. between Cauowmdra and C’owra. Fro in information to hand, it appears that Henry Griiiisiiaw, an cM and highly respected resident of tne. has been growing wheat on the half share system on Ryan's property, and that they quarrelled over the ownership of an old trace* chain. Afterwards Ryan appeared friendly,, and asked Grimshaw to come into his house and have something to eat. Grimshaw remarked that he would get home, a ui|tance of about four miles. Ryan said, ‘•Wait. I will get my gun and will go and shoot a rabbit.” Grimshaw started a lona the road, driving on a sled, with his Tittle son, aged nine years, Rvan walking immediately behind, carrying a ffun . ° When about half a mile from Ryan’s residence, Ryan deliberately filed, at Grimshaw and shot him in the back from a distance of only a few feet. Ryan immediately rushed into some small scrub near the. road, but noticing that Grimshaw was still alive coolly walked back. Grimshaw immediately said, “Jack, put me on the sled and take me home.” Ryan said, I m begoared if I will,” and walked in the direction of liis own home. Grimshaw with difficulty, crawled on to the sled and drove to within half a mile t-f his own residence, when he became exhausted, but was afterwards taken home by a man named Greeen to boidier s Flat. Ryau was subsequently found dead m a shed near his residence, having taken a dose of strychnine, some of which was found on him. Grimshaw has since oeeti taken to the Cowra Hospital, where ue now lies in a critical condition.
