Within the last forthight seven of the Misses Carr and' Hardie’s shorthand pupils have been the recipients of speed certificates from. Sir Isaac Pitman and Sons, England. The following are the names of the successful candidates:Miss A. Howarth, 140 words per minute; Miss. M. Robertson, 140 words;. Miss T. Bern, 120 words; Miss B. Drury, 120 words; Miss G. Tippler, 120 words; Miss E. Moginie, 100 words; Miss I. Shine, 80 words. The lastnamed pupil has made exceptional progress since she took up the study of shorthand. She became a pupil at the Misses Carr and Hardie’s school in July last, knowing absolutely nothing of’the art at the time, and three months ’ater, in October, she passed an examination, for eighty words per minute, having passed the theory examination after only six weeks’ tuition.
