Messrs William Gill and’ W. O. ouoine, J.’sJ:, presided :at the Magistrate’s Court on the 81st . Otto , Petetrseh, a seaman on the ship Invercargill, was charged, with having disobeyed the lawful commands cf the captain of the vessel by refusing to discharge cargo when called upon to do so. Captain Bowling and the accused had a wordy encounter in the !> Court, after which Petersen was convicted and discharged, on his undertaking*, to return to duty and pay the costs hf thd case (7s). The captain informed.:; the Beam, that ins crew was absolutely .the wopst he had had anything to-do with l in thirtyfive years’ experience of the sea. Pea*ay Emanuel was before the Court' charged with vagrancy. Cox gave tha accused a bad character, and the Bench sent him to prison for three months. Accused left the dock bellowing like a > buii of Bashan, . Walter Miles was, ordered to pay a fine of 5s and costs for . having threateningly behaved himself in a public place with intent to provoke a breach of the peace. A similar warning was vouchsafed to Charles Physiek. Andrew Fowler was fined 5s and costs (12s) for having driven a vehicle after sundown without lights thetreon. John Andersm, an employee on the steamer Stormbird, was fined os and costs (9s) for having ridden a bicycle on the Queen’s Wharf, such act fe&ing a contravention of the Harbour Board by-laws. A Press Association message'states that the Pimutaka sailed fro-m Capetown for this colony on the 26th inst.y and' that the Eakaia sailed from Monte Video on her Homeward journey on the 2J)th, Another message" states that the Karamea, which left London on Deceniber not leave Plymouth tili. the
