Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co. report that at St. Hill street on Thursday they had a full yarding of stock. The attendance was good. Sheep were in good demand 1 , a nice lot of Napier wethers realising 13s 6d. At Waverley last Friday the yards were well filled with both sheep and cattle. Bidding was keen throughout, and everyth'ng sold readily. Quotations: —-At St. Hill street—Cattle: Fat steers (light), £7 10s; fat cows, £4 15s 6d; 3 and 4-year steers, £5 14s to £6 2s 6d; 12 to 18months steers, £2 17s to £3; mixed yearlings, £2 5s to £2 10s; weaners, 28s to 30s. Sheep : Fat ewes, 12s 3d: store ewes, 10s sd; 2-tooth wether*, (good line), 13s 6d : store ewes (in wool), 10s 9d; woolly lambs (small), 5s to 6s. At Waverely—/Oat tie : Fat cows, £4 15s to £4 17s; forward cows, £4 4s to £4 ss; 3-year steers. £5 10s; 18-month to 2-3 ear steers, £3 Is to £4; weaners, 28s to 375; mixed yearlings, £2 15s to £2 17s; springing heifers, £4 10s. Sheep : Hoggets and ewes (mixed), 13s 3d; wethers, 11s 6d to 13s 8d; store ewes, 6s; lambs in wool, 5s to 8s 7d ; lambs, shorn, 7s 7d to B,s 7d. THE LIVE STOCK MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH, January 30. The entries at Addington to-da3 r were —2634 fat sheep, 3100 fat lambs, 14,600 store sheep, 221 cattle and 421 pigs. Beef —159 head, mostly cows and beef. With the exception of a few

prime "steers, which, brought up to 24s 6d, beef eased considerably, making 18s to 22s per 1001 b. Steers, £7 to £9 2s 6d; heifers, £5 to £7 ss; best cows, £7 to £8 2s 6d; others, £4 ids to £6 Store cattle were in keen demand. Three-year steers, £5 2s 6d to £5 15s; two-year do., £3 10s; 15 to 18-months cattle, £3 ss; yearlings, £1 5s to £2; dry cows, £2 to £4 10s. The fat sheep included some good lines of wethers, which alone held their own, others showing a slight decline. Heavy wethers, up to 21s 2d; freezers, 18s to 20s 8d; unfinished, 16s to 17& 6d; best 'ewes, 15s 6d to 18s; others, 12s to 15s.

Fat lambs—With the exception of a few pens, the quality was not so good. The demand was weaker, and' prices declined fully .Is per head. About 1000 were passed and 1800 taken by export* buyers. Freezers, 14s to 16s -lc§; others, 9s 6d to 135.. i / ife The store sheep were mostly wethers and lambs, with a few lines of ewes, a good many from the North Island and .Marlborough. The bottom seems to have fallen out- of the market, and though there were plenty of buyers they would not give the prices asked for the lots (mostly dealers’), and fully half the entry was withdrawn. others, 14s 8d to 15s 6d, equal to a drop of Is to Is 6d. Only a couple of lines of ewes sold at 15s 3d for 4-tooths, all others being withdrawn. Lambs suffered a drop of 6d to 9d, best selling at 18s Id to 13s 9d; medium, 11s to 12s; and others. 7s 3d to 10s.

Pigs were short of supply, and there was a good sale in all classes. Baconers, 33s Gd to 55s 6d, or 3|d to 4d per lb; porkers, 25s to 34s 3d, or 4-^d: large stores, 22s to 325; suckers and weaners, 9s 6d to 13s. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. SYDNEY, January 30.
