HARBOUR BOARD.

The Board met last week, Mr Harold Beauchamp (chairman) presiding. Tlio list cf payers of dues was approved, no objections having been raised.

The bank books showed : Current account. credit balance, £2843 10s 4d ; imprest wages account, £6OO ; on fixed deposit, £36,000.

Payments were authorised as follows : —Accounts and wages, £7476 17s Id ; salaries for January, £SOO 3s lOd; progress and final on contracts, £7017 i9s lid. Total, £14,995 0s lOd. The Chairman reported that the Conciliation Board on the 24th ultimo made an award in the matter of the wharf labourers 5 dispute, and that it is not proposed to accept the recommendations, but to carry the matter in dispute before the Arbitration Court.—The report was adopted.

The Wharves and Accounts Committee recommended : 1. That the form of receipt ordinarily given for cargo from vessels be altered to read, “Received in apparent good order and condition, weight, contents and value unknown.” 2. That the Board decline to pay the following claims made in respect of goods alleged pillaged out of cases for which -the Board has given clean leceipts to the steamers; R. Hannah and Co., £lO Is 3d, ex Wakamri; W. and G. Turnbull and Co., £3 4s lid, ex Mimiro; J. J. Curtis, £2 7s 6d, ex Mimiro; Kempt home, Prosser and Co., £6 12s 6d, ex Whakatane.” 3. That the license fees to be paid by the Seatoun Road Board be fixed at £1 per annum in respect to each license for the Miramar, Seatoun, and Karaka Bay wharves, (a) that the Board do not insist on an insurance clause provided there is a covenant that the Road Board rebuild in the event of damage by fire ; (b) that a clause be required m the licenses providing that returns showing the amount of tolls collected be made to the Board. 4. That the Board approve the action of the Engineer in le quest ing the City Council to include in its baths contract at Clyde quay the construction of the western wail, which, under the agreement, has to be built by the Board. 5. That the amount of £24 be deducted from the last payment to be made to Mr Joseph Saunders in respect to contract No. 95, concrete face wall and staging at Waterloo quay, as liquidated damages for delay in completion.—The report was adopted.
