Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co., in conjunction with Messrs Abraham and Williams, report as to their Johnsonville sale:—Fat cattle in moderate numbers sold briskly 7 at rather better rates,, prime quality handy weights oxen making 225, coarser sorts 21s the 1001 b respectively. Prices ranged from £8 12s Gd to £9 7s 6d; cows and heifers, £5 15s to £7 ss, equal to 19s the lOCib. Fat sheep in limited supply were etjual to requirements, and sold on a par with last week’s rates, the demand, however, being only moderate. Prime ewes, 14s; medium, 12s 8d to 13s ; good wethers, los 6d; lighter sorts, 14s. The lambs, of medium quality, only made 8s lOd to 9s lOd.

The Department of Agriculture has received the following message from the Agent-General, dated London, 26th January 7 : —“Average price choicest butter, 110 s. New Zealand butter is giving satisfaction to buyers. There is a good demand for butter. Cbeese, 535. market dull. There are a. few complaints of ’off’ flavour in New Zealand choose. The hemp market is very firm ; good fair Wellington, £2l 10s; fair current Manila, £27. There are signs of improvement in the hemp market for distant deliveries. Cocksfoot unchanged.” COMMERCIAL CABLES. LONDON, January 25. Bradford Tops—The market is restricted. Common sixties, id lower, at per lb; super sixties, unchanged, at 19ld per lb. Wool—At the iroel awiee prices axo firm. Faulfcjes have a weaker tendency. The “ Highfield” clip brought 6-id. At the tallow sales 2175 casks were •offered, and 425 sold'. Prices are unchanged. THE PRICES oF METALS. Copper is quiet—Spot, 2s 6d higher, •at £7l 10s per ton; three months’, 2s 6d lower, at £72 per ton. Tin is firmer—Spot,- 82s 6d higher, at £124 12s 6d per ten; three months’, 40s higher, at £l2l 10s per ton. Pig iron—Glasgow warrants, 6d higher, at 53s 3d per to ll , f.o.b. in Clyde.: Lead, 2s 6cl lower, at £l6 per ton. Silver—Bar silver is quoted at 2s 4id per oz.
