PROPOSED CHAIR OF EDUCATION.
Mr J. R. Blair has given notice that he will move at the next meeting of the Victoria College Council the following motion :—(1) That at as early a date as possible a Chair of Education be, established, in connection with the Victoria College. # (2) That a committee consisting of the chairman (Sir itoberfc Stout;, the Bishop of Wellington, Mr W. A. Evans, Mr Watson, Mr Fleming and the mover be appointed to set out the qualifications required of candidates and to advertise in the colony and Britain, er otherwise, for applicants for the position, terms to be formulated and approved by the Council. Mr Blair said his reason for moving in this direction was to have their school teachers properly educated. The present want of system was likely to lead to two things :
Either disaster if they followed on their present lines, or in the alternative tho regrettable necessity of having to obtain teachers from elsewhere.
