LIBERAL AND LABOUR FEDERATION
The adjourned annual meeting of the Liberal and Labour Federation (Clyde quay branch) was held in the Foresters’ Hall last Monday, there being a large attendance. amongst whom were a considerable number of lady members of the - branch. Mr John Stratford, the president, occupied the chair. The report reviewed the history of the branch since iff? establishment fifteen months ago. It started with some thirty members, but now numbered over three hundred. The committee claimed that, while attending to the business of the federation, they had at their frequentmeetings throughout the year provided, a large amount, of social entertainment, and contributed to the political education of the members. Efforts would be made during the coming year to arrange for a series of addresses on questions of the day by prominent public men, similar to those which proved so instructive last' year. The report- funner eor-gratu. lated the branch on its satisfactory 'financial position, there being a credit of £ls 12s 6d, and concluded by expressing the obligation of the branch to Messrs E. Arnold and J. -Stratford for the use of their rooms for committee meetings; to Mesdames Stratford, Corliss, Fitzgerald, Rolleston, Harris and Player for their exertions in carrying out the social functions of the branch; and to Mr Edwards, the secretary of the federation, for the useful advice he has tendered concerning the conduct of its affairs. On the motion of Mr W. Fitzgerald, seconded by Mr O’Laughlin, it was resolved that the branch should heartily congratulate the Postmaster-General on ‘ the establishment of penny postage.
