At a meeting of the Ratepayers’ Association several matters concerning the cilty finances were discussed. Complaints regarding the conduct of the public office in the City Engineer’s Department were tabled, and a committee was set up to inquire into them. Several members drew unfavourable comparisons between the streets and reserves of Wellington and those of other cities. A committe was appointed to consider the city finances and the various schemes new before the Council. Two new members were elected.
Mr Moorehouse, Chief Ranger of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, has secured nine deer calves this season at Mart-iaborough—five stags and four binds. These will be liberated in suitable places later on. The curator of the Masterton fish ponds has raised fifty Mallard ducks this season,
