The phenomenally dry season, is telling very severely on the pastures in the Waikato (says the Auckland “Herald”), and in most places the milk supply to the creameries has been lowered by about 60 per cent. Old residents have to - cast back for a quarter of a century to find a parallel for the E resent drought, though, owing to the eavy growth in the spring, the grass has not been so short in this as in some former seasons. The heat has probably never • been exceeded. In Cambridge one day last week the thermometer registed 97deg in the shade, and visitors say the temperature approximates to that of Sydney. Meantime the harvest operations are being carried on very satisfactorily, and the quality of the crops so far is of - the best.
