SENIOII CHAMPIONSHIP. WELLINGTON v. PHOENIX. The second round of the season’s matches commenced on Saturday, in weather of great. variety. Play had not long commenced -when the wind began to increase, sending up clouds of dust. Rain also fell, chilling everyone to the marrow, and compelling cricketers to rush off the field for shelter. After a quarter of an hour’s interval bright Phoebus again obtained the mastery, and play was proceeded with. The great feature on No. 2 pitch was Gore's contribution of 80 runs. Halley distinguished himself by capturing five wickets for 58 runs. Crombie also made the game exceedingly lively by adding 52 runs to the score, most of them run out, and comprising two fours, twelve threes, two twos and four singles. Ashbolt and Richardson had previously opened the innings very cautiously, when Richardson was caugiit by Glasgow (who fielded well throughout the innings, saving a large number of boundary hits). Hickson contributed 13 and Weybourne tlie only <- duck.” This is accounted for by his absence from practice for some time. The innings closed for 213 runs. Subjoined are the details:

Bowling Analysis.—Wells, 138 balls, 4 maidens. 62 runs, 1 wicket; Halley. 138 balls, 6 maidens, 58 runs, 5 wickets ; Haldane, 90 balls, 8 maidens, 20 runs, 1 wicket; Waters, 70 balls, 1 maiden, 32 runs, 3 wickets: Midlane. 18 balls, 20 runs. OLD BOYS v. MIDLAND.
