An effort is being made to raise a fund to provide a memorial of Simon de Montfort, at Evesham.. It is to take the form of an equestrian figure in aluminium, on a suitable base, and under a canopy, on the spot -where the great Earl was buried. The cost is estimated at J&2500. On the eve of her approaching marriage Miss F. Hall, who has been on the staff of the Mount Cook Girls' School, was presented yesterday by the teachers and scholars of the school with a handsome silver tea service. Mr J. P. Murphy, captain of the Wellington Cycling Club, on behalf of the members, presented Mr D. Brand, the late captain, with a marble clock as a wedding gift.
