BULLS.
(From our Own Correspondent). The annual bulb show attracted a large and fashionable attendance. Mis Geo. Wastney, Miss Bennett, and Mrs J. G. Wilson took the most prizes in the amateur classes, while the exhibits of H. C. Gibbons and Co. and Mr'Cooper were very much .admired, and deservedly received high commendation from luc" visitors. Mr Rhodes, from Rata, and Mr Wilde, from Marton, also had some •splendidly grown varieties. The tables and bouquets were quite an exhibition in themselves. The races drew a record attendance for our spring meeting. The autopsy on Richmond Gem who died the dav after the races in Heme's stables, showed "botts" as the cause. A canvass has been made in the district to sea what support coula be got to provide an assistant to the Rev J. Doull (Presbyterian), and seems to have been well responded to. While on church matters it is reported that the Rev R. T. Mathews (Anglican) gives up his cure of this parish at Easter. xne Salvation Army Maori singers were here last week and did good "biz," if sucn an expression may be allowed. The Polo and Tennis C'ubs have each been working at their respective grounds ready for opening on the Ist October. The Public Librarv has just imported £ls worth of books, and that together with the Government grant for works of reference has further enhanced the value of our institute. ' - Mr White, our popular and energetic postmaster, is away on a well earned holiday. Mr Jones, of the firm of Jones and McGregor, is suffering from pleurisy, from which all wish him a speedy recovery. Mr E. Westwooa has* joined his brother in the flaxmilling at Awamate and also at Te Toki, but" has not given up his blacksmith's shop. Messrs Harper and Allport's mill is Hearing completion on Heaton Park. " .
We have to thank the conductors for sending us a copy of "The Echo," the quarterly magazine of the Wesley Sunday School Young Men's Bible Class. This useful little periodical is well written, the articles on "Self Culture" and "The Faults of Young Men" being specially valuable. The latter article deals with the opinions of twelve young ladies on the subject named, and these fan* critics' views ought to lead young men to strive after a higher ideal of manhood. - '.
