WEDDING BELLS AND COUNTRY SOCIALITIES.

A quiet wedding took place on Thursday, when Mr J. P. Stuart, tester for the Manawatu Farmers'. Dairy Union, was united in marriage to Miss Lilian Fowler, daughter of Mr J. Fowler, builder, of this city. The Rev J. K. Elliott officiated. The bride, who wore a handsome brown travelling costume, was given away by her father, and was accompanied as bridesmaids by Misses Stuart and Wickens. Mr A. H. Fowler acted as groomsman. Among the many handsome presents received by the young couple was a beautiful marble timepiece from the ' staff and raiik-suppliers of the Palmerston North butter factory.

Ajf. ***** St. Mary's Cathedral Church, Wanganui, was the scene of a very pretty and interesting wedding on Tuesday, 12th inst., the contracting parties being Mr Dan Malone (son of Mr Michael Malone), of Patea, and Miss Annie Whelan, third daughter of Mrs Whelan, of Wanganui. The Very Rev Dean Kirk, S.M., officiated. The bride was given away by her brother, Mr T. Whelan, and was attended by her sisters, Misses Kitty, Julie and Francey Whelan, as bridesmaids. The bride was attired in a stylishly-made costume of electric blue cloth, with a pretty white silk chiffon front, with white silk trimmings and white satin revers, covered with guipure lace, the skirt and coat being beautifully braided. She also wore a large, white picture hat, trimmed with ostrich feathers, and carried a beautiful shower bouquet, the gift of the bridegroom. ,-. The bridesmaids wore pretty cream.-gowns', ,; with white chip, hats-, and carried pretty * shower bouquets. The bride's gift to the bridegroom was a set of gold sleevelinks,, and; the" Jbridegroom's'i gift -tef'i the ' bride was a. beautiful gold bangle, set in pearls, and to the bridesmaids , pretty brooches. .. The bride's motheT was becomingly attired in a black silk dress and black bonnet with heliotrope trimmings; Miss M. Whelan wore a pretty costume of brown eloth„ At the conclusion of the ceremony the wedding guests were entertained at the residence of the bride's mother, where the usual good wishes for the bride and bridegroom were expressed.

Hackett, of Waikato, was united in matrimony to Miss Isabella McGlinchy, sister-in-law of Mr C. Nicholson, of the Record Reign Hotel, Gisborne. A large number of friends witnessed the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev Father Mulvihill. The bride, who was tastefully attired in cream lustre silk, was attended by Mrs Nicholson's three little daughters. The bridegroom was accomoajaied by Messrs J. Hackett and J. McQuarters. At the conclusion of the service the wedding party were entertained at the Record Reign Hotel, where an excellent breakfast was spread.

On Tuesday, September 12, at Masterton, Miss Fitzsimmons was married to Mr G. L. Braggins. Misses Fitzsimmons and Robertson acted as bridesmaids, and Mr F. Groombridge as best man. A handsome marble clock was presented to Mr Braggins by'the members of the Kuripuni Fire Brigade, of which body ho is a member. A day of rejoicing was held at Papawai last week, the occasion being the celebration of three weddings. A ball was held in the evening in the large meeting-house, when a large number of Europeans from Greytown were present.

A very enjoyable function took place at the Greytown Foresters' Hall last Thursday evening, the occasion being the twenty-fifth anniversary of the wedding of Mr and Mrs D. P. Loasby. The hall was cro\vded with guests, and an exceedingly pleasant time was spent by all amid dancing, singing and.games. At an appropriate time, the beautiful silver wedding - cake was - broached, wine handed round, and the happy-task-of offering the congratulations of the company to the host and hostess was admirably carried out by Mr H. A. Mr Loasby responding.
