EXHIBITION BY THE CAMERA CLUB.

Lovers of artistic photographic work, whether they dabble in the art themselves or not, may look forward with pleasure to the impending exhibition at the Art Gallery, under the auspices of the local Camera Club. On this occasion the display will be quite intercolonial in character, and therefore of an unusually high standard of merit. Over seven hundred pictures have been received by the committee, there being competitors from Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane, as well as from every part of New Zealand. One particular feature of the exhibition—and one that will perhaps cause a little surprise—will be the remarkably fine quality of the carbon work from enlarged negatives. This particular branch of photography, by which beautiful results are achieved, has been taken up with enthusiasm by Messrs Pringle, Heginbotliam, Watson and Joyce, and some of the pictures to be shown by these gentlemen are particularly' commendable. A large number of the exhibits were viewed privately yesterday afternoon, and admiring surprise was expressed at the fine work done by the operators. In the still life and genre sections there are some charming photographs, and a similar remark describes the porti’aiture. Yachtsmen will have an opportunity of seeing what may be done in seascapes by a Sydney exhibitor. The opening ceremony will take place on Mondial nsxt, the Mayor will preside.
