A detachment of 100 men of tlie Ist Lancers of the Hyderbad (Indian) contingent, under Captain Humphrey, recently proceeded to Bir to support the civil authority against a band of 90 Dacoits. The Lancers attacked the band and captured the ringleader, together with 38 of his followers, 10 of whom were killed and 16 wounded in-the fighting. On the British side one sowar was severely wounded.
