GOVERNMENT HOUSE BALL.
A BRILLIANT FUNCTION. AUCKLAND, Thursday. The Queen’s Birthday ball, which was postponed from the 24th ult. on account of the renovation and furnishing of Government House not being complete, took place to-night. There had been 600 invitations issued, and the ball-room was beautifully decorated. The ball was opened at 9.30 with a. quadrille as follows : His Excellency flic Governor (Lord Ranfurly) and Mrs Col. Banks, Col. Pole Penton and Lady Ranfurly, Captain Dudley Alexander and Miss Douglas (daughter of Sir Arthur Douglas, who is of the Government House party), Mr Pennefather and Mrs Mitchelson, Mr P. L. Dignan and Mrs C. M. Nelson, Col. Banks and Mrs Tole. Sir James Hector and Mrs P. Dignan, the Hon E. Mitchelson and Mrs James Russell. Elaborate preparations were made for the comfort and accommodation of the guests. The function was a very brilliant one. Dancing was kept up till an early hour in the morning.
