ni'jlit a second attempt was made to burn .-t. Patrick's Cathedral. Soon after midnight the front door was found to be on fire, bub it was soon extinguished by some men -of - warsmen. Kerosene had,, been sprinkled over the woodwork, evidently the work of tho individual who made the previous attempt. Tho installation of W.M. Bro. C. C. McMillan, D.G.M., designate of the District Grand Lodge of Auckland, 8.C., took place at a brilliant Masonic gathering at the Choral Hall. Tho Auckland Club held a ''friends night," and the Northern club gave a ball in honour of the event.

The new Agricultural Buildings, in which i the winter show is to be held on Wednesday, were opened to-night by the Acting-Premier. There was a large attendance Tho speakers were the Hons Fergus and McKenzie, and Mr T. Brydone. The Acting-Premier, in tho courso of a patriotic speech, said that when the history of Her Majesty'.* reign was written, something would be said of the hardy pioneers who came out here and started tho colony of New Zealand, and the work of colonisation on the part of the old identities of Qtago.
