FIRES.
Napier, May 12. A six-roomed house at Clive, owned and occupied by Mrs Eetter, was burned down yesterday afternoon. The house was invaded by flood water recently, and a fire had been lit in the front room to dry the furniture, and it is imagined a spark flew out and caused the fire. The insurances on the building are £2OO, and on the furniture .£lB5, in the South British. Hawera, May 12. Further enquiries relative to a fire at one Carey's store, Otakeho, have resulted in informations of arson and perjury being sworn against him. Carey has laid an information against a constable and three settlers charging them with conspiracy to murder him. Auckland, May 12. It is now stated that the insurance on Plummer's straw hat, factory had not run out. It was insured in the Commercial Union for £450. John Lynch's slaughterhouse at Whangapoua road, Coromandel, with its contents, has been burned down. 3.he fire is supposed to have originated in the engineroom. The building was insured in the National office for £4OO. The damage done is estimated at £GOO.
