THE QUEEN’S RECORD REIGN.
The Bishop of Wellington has asked the clergy throughout the diocese to hold thanksgiving services in connection with the Queen’s .Record Reign celebration in June, the offertories to be collected to be devoted to the establishment of a fund for the erection and maintenance of a “ Home for Women ” in Wellington, to be called “ Victoria Diocesan Home.” The sixty-four rooms taken at the Hotel Cecil, in London, for the colonial Premiers and their suites form but a corner of that vast building. Ifc contains 1200 apartments altogether. • London, May 8. The Queenslanders resident in Great Britain have decided to present the Queen with an illuminated address in commemoration of her record reign.
Melbourne, May 7. A movement is on foot to supplement the present of meat to the English poor by a large quantity ol : wine. Melbourne, May 8. The Victorian graziers have already promised 4000 sheep and 120 bullocks for the dinner to the English poor. Sydney, May 7. Both Houses adopted congratulatory addresses to the Queen on her Record Reign. Sydney, May 8. Ministers entertained members to celebrate Mr Reid’s departure. In the course of his speech, Mr Reid hinted at the probability of Sir Joseph Abbott succeeding Sir Saul Samuel as Agent-General for New South Wales in London. Mr Reid left for Adelaide by train, and a large crowd assembled to wish him bon voyagz. Mr Reid leaves Adelaide by the Orizaba on Wednesday. He visits Scotland and. the Continent, and returns via America. Auckland, May 11. A public meeting was held to-night to decide on the proposals for celebrating the Queen’s record reign. Ultimately, a proposal in favour of the establishment of a hospital was carried, and a strong committee was appointed to carry the matter out.
