NOTES.
The Wellington Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Society’s Show is to be held during the first week in July. The committee have, as usual, included a photographic class in the schedule ; but this year the competitor is limited to “feathered subjects,” so that we shall not have exhibitors exercising their discretion in sending in for competition pictures of dogs, cats, and genre studies. The first prize is a gold medal, with certificates for second and third prizes. Seldom de we see pictures .which come within the scope of this competition; but as shots at this subject are obtainable by almost every photograper, the society should have a good collection at their show.
The artigue process, about which much has-been- written of-late, is a modification of the ordinary carbon printing in that no transfer of the print is required as it is developed from the front, the celloid matters being in a much thinner film than in the older method. The development is effected either with hot water alone, or preferably with a mixture of fine sawdust and water. The action of the sawdust is purely mechanical, as it acts as an abrasive material and thus carries off the pigment. It is unfortunate that, as far as is known T the paper cannot be obtained here. ' Next week I will give a brief practical directions for preparing the paper.
