A candidate for Parliamentary honours, in an electorate not 10 ) miles from Wellington, bad a disheartening experience on election day. He had 18 good men and true on his coaimittee in a certain district, all of whom were pledged to give him their votes. But when the fateful day arrived, he found that only 17 votes were rocorded for him in that locality. There is much tribulation in the district ; each member of that committee accuses his neighbour of being the backslider.
