THE New Zealand Mail. PUBLISHED WEEKLY. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 3, 1896. OURSELVES.
Xn presenting the Christmas and ExhibiT tion Number of the New Zealand Mail, we do not wish to trouble our readers with very much in the way of editorial comment. We wish, however, to draw attention to the fact that the whole of the prizestories in this number are written by New Zealanders, that all the illustrations deal with New Zealand subjects, that all the pictures have been engraved in the Colony, that this is, in fact. M JWuc Zealand Pro duction from beginning to end. Further, we claim that it is the “ biggest and best sixpenny worth of recreative reading ” ever offered to the public by any newspaper proprietory in this colony. The number consists of eighty pages, and, putting the advertisements on one side, it will be found that we give our patrons over ‘250 columns of reading matter, which is equal to the contents of nearly firm: ordinarysized novels. And all this, mark you, for the popular sixpence! The e liter, whose work has been all the more arduous in that
he is one of the candidates for the representation of Wellington City in the new Parliament, desires to personally thank the literary and mechanic il stalls of the paper for the energetic and whole-souled manner in which they have seconded his efforts to “break the record” sj far as Christmas Numbers in this colony are concerned. He places the production before the public with full confidence that the verdic: will be one satisfactory alike to himself and to his employers, and in conclusion begs to wish all his readers, regular subscribers to the Mail or otherwise, A Very Merry Christmas and A Harry and Prosperous New Year.
