Tho school committoes of Canterbury are raising a row because the Education Board has not yet appointed a truant officer. Marton, which " grows more like Paris evory day," has now the nucleus, or the basis, of a park (writes our correspondent). The Mayor, Mr McDonald, for years advocated the establishment of a public park, but it was as " the voico of one crying- in the wilderness " until a fow months ago, when other citizens took up the cry, and the result was that the Council engaged Mr Hunt, the wellknown landscape gardener, to lay out the reserve. The manner in which this has been done is now the theme of general remark in Marton. The site is a splendid slope near the English Church building, and already a track has been formed and a splendid lawn. It is understood that the present Mayor declines to stand for office again, and it must be no small satisfaction to him to see the realisation of his design.
