The Marquis of Huntly, who has been reelected Lord Rector of Aberdeen University, was appointed to the position for the first time in 1890, and again in 181)3. A concession has been obtained from the Government of a daily mail service to Gladstone, in the Taratahi-Carterton district, and a branch office at Parkvale, for the benefit of the Kokotau and Parkvale settlers. A force of GOOO policemen, out of the total of 8000, was constantly on duty during the Czar's stay in Paris, each man doing 15 hours' service daily.
