An effort was made at Adelaide a few weeks ago to raise sufficient funds to build a new Boys' Institute, with the result that .£4OOO was obta'nei in two months. Additions are required to accommodate the increasing membership at the local institute, and it has been suggested that a systematic canvass of the same kind might be made to obtain the funds. The matter will probably be ventilated at the nest meeting of the committee. In connection with a resolution passed by the Melrose Borough Council that a right-of-way should be granted from Taitville through a portion of the Upland estate on condition that the road be 66ft wide, Councillor Key intends to move that the resolution be rescinded.
