Councillor Deviuo moved at last week's meeting of the City Council, _ that the Council, as representing the citizens of Wellington, convey to tho Premier its protest against the contemplated action of the Government in converting the Terrace Gaol into a lunatic asylum, temporary or otherwise, as being detrimental to property owners in the vicinity, and to the interests of the city generally. AlhO, that tho Council associate itsolf with any other Wellington public body or committee of representative citizens in urging on the Government the claims of Wellington to the Terrjice gaol, when vacated, as a site for a University College. The motion wan carried, and it was decided to convey the wishes ol the Council to the Hon the Premier.
Inspectors Dee and Fleming have just concluded tho examination of the Mount Cook Girls' School.
