THE SPORTS.
At 5 o'clock the visitors flocked to the cycling track, where three races were got off in the short space of half an hour. Although the entries wero numerous the wind prevented any fast times being made, and deterred many ot the entrants from starting. The following are the results : Half-mile Open Scratch Race (under Cyclists' Alliance rules). F. B. Mui? 1 L. T. Herbert 2 A. H. Hunt 3
The time was slow, and the race was a procession as far as Muir was concerned, as he won all the way, Herbert beating Hunt for second place. Time, lmin IG-^sec. Three-mile Open Handicap (under Cyclists' Union rules). 11. Peacock, 50yds ... ... 1 G. H. Goodwill,* 60yds 2 T. Young, 40yds ... 3 The other starters were —F. Hunt, A. E. Wakeman and J. Barker. Hunt, who started under the disadvantage of having to owe a lap and 160yds to A. E. Wakeman, raced gamely, but was unable to overtake the leaders. For the first five laps Hunt was a lap behind, with Young last but one, and Barker next to him, Wakeman keeping the lead until the tenth round with second. Barker then slowed down and paced Hunt for three or four rounds, all the others being half a lap in front. In the fifteenth lap Peacock spurted and eventually won from Goodall by a few yards, with Young close up for third place. Time, Bmin 19seo. Two-mile Open Handicap (under Cyclists' Alliance rules.) L. A. H. Hunt, C. W. Johnston and J. W. Harker also started. The race was uninteresting for the first few rounds. In the seventh round Johnston passed Harker, with Lucy, Hunt and Herbert in that order close on his heels. In the eleventh round Herbert spurted and passed Lucy, thus winning a game race by three yards. Time, smin 9seo.
