EXHIBITION NOTES.

MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Exhibition was held last week, Mr S. Brown presiding. The Secretary of the Exhibition Regatta wrote asking what assistance the committee would be prepared to give towards the regatta to be hold on 23rd January. The Chairman said that the agreement with the guarantors precluded the committee from making any grant towards the regatta. The Secretary said he had been interviewed by Ur Tregoar, who informed him that the stalls in the Exhibition came under the Factories Act, but it was decided nut to enforce the strict letter of the law in cases where work was carried on at night. Mr Trogear also said that it would be necessary that stalls which entered into competition with shops should retrain from selling on the Wednesday halfholiday. The Chairman said ho had communicated with the Eromier, and pointed out that it would be necessary in connection with certain manufactures shown in the Exhibit tion that the employees should be exempted from the provisions of the Factories -Vet. The question of distribution of programmes throughout the Colony by tho railway authorities came up for discussion. The proposition was that 20 4 QOQ of each week’s programmes should bo printed at a cost of «£G and distributed by tho railway authorities.

Several of the members said they did not think the scheme would be of much benefit to the Exhibition. It was docided not to entertain tho proposal. The Building Committee reported that tho building was now practically completed, and suggested that should a carpenter be required during the time the Exhibition was open the services of tho present foreman be retained, as he had given every satisfaction.

The report was adopted. The secretary was instructed to insure the exhibits at once.

Mr Bannister suggested that season tickets should be issued to children under 12 years at os. On the motion of Mr Bannister, it was arranged that permission to take photographs in the Exhibition be issued at a charge of .£5 ss, and only to those trading as photographers. Mr Bannister, on behalf of the Sports Committee, asked for a graut of <£2o for the bicycle meeting on Wednesday, November 25, and a similar amount for the meeting of November 28, and <£so for that of December sth.

The chairman said that the Sports Committee had had a free hand up to the present. He considered that a balancesheet of receipts and expenditure should be presented before any more expenditure wa3 authorised. He pointed out that the expenditure on the cycling track up to the present was about <£4DO. Mr Bannister replied that the expectations of the committee as to the receipts ■would be fulfilled. .

It was agreed to authorise the grants asked for the meetings of November 25 and 26, and to hold over the other application for further consideration.
