A dangerous joke was played by some boys at Melton a few days ago. Because a lady, into -whose garden they had continually knocked their cricket ball, threatened to burn the ball if it came into the garden again, they bored a hole into the ball and filled it with gunpowder. In duo course it found its way over the fence and into the fire, where it exploded, scaring the inmates of' the house, but fortunately doing no damage. A Carterton lady made J 2300 over the win of Lady Zetland at Christchurch. Sho had Lady Zetland and Kewhayen in tho t double.”
