Before Mr McKellar, Collector of Customs, two enquiries wero held last week. One was into the recent fatality on the Rakaia, whereby young Casey lost his life, and the other was into the circumstances connected with the grounding of the Takapuna on a sandbank at New Plymouih this week. The evidence taken in each case has been forwarded to the Marino Department. Mr H. J. H. Blow, while in Marlborough, approved the bite selected by Mr Holmes for the railway and traffic bridge over the Awatere.
