SALVATION ARMY.

Sydney, November 16.

Commander Herbert Booth, addressing an immense Sal\ T ation Army gathering, announced the new plan of campaign.

He stated that the General had decided to carry the war into and conquer Melanesia and the whole of the islands of the Eastern Archipelago. This was a new missionary field, Avith a population of 40 millions. The Army of Australia would be asked to give its flesh and blood to conquer the heathen ; but he warmed soldiers who volunteered that they might be landed in Borneo with no better prospect than being served up for breakfast. With regard to the work in Australasia, he said it was intended to establish nerv food and shelter depots in the leading centres, including Christchurch ; a hospital corps with a staff of nursing sisters, a league of mercy, a young army corps, a transport corps and an insurance corps, and to open a new farm colony near Melbourne. It was also intended to extensively develop the Avood supplying and rag and bone industries.
