THE MASTER OF THE ROLLS.

London, November 10. The Right Hon Lord Esher, Master of the Rolls, is retiring from that position. Lord Esher was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 1816. He contested Rochdale with Mr Cobden in 1860, hut was defeated. He was returned for Helstoa on petition, and in 18:13 was appointed .SolicitorGeneral. in August of that year ho became Justice of the Court of Common Pleas, and in 1875 Judge of the High ucurt of Justice. In October iS7o ho was made a Judge of the Intermediate Court of Appeal, and became Master of I.ho Rolls in 1885. He was raised to the peerage in 1836 in recognition of his long and eminent services as a Judge.
