Mahaki took command, and passing the stand was leading with Defiance, Quiltiri, Culverin, Captive and Bellicent following in the order named, and Ngatuere last. As they went on past Cutts' Mahaki was still in front, and had Defiance as his immediate attendant, while Quiltiri, Culverin, Bellicent and Captive were at the head of the others, and Ngatuere was tailing off. Down the back stretch Mahaki still showed the way from Defiance, and the order of the others was—Quiltiri, Culverin, Captive, Euroclydon, Fabulist, Bellicent, The Possible, Casket and Lady Zetland. At the Kennels Mahaki was still in command, with Defiance next, but Culverin had lost her position, and Epaulet, Bellicent, Fabulist and Euroclydon were moving up. Once fairly in the straight Euroclydon caught Defiance and The Possible, and Lady Zetland moved up closer to the leaders, while Epaulet and Quiltiri were still struggling on in front of the others. At the distance Euroclydon had shaken off Defiance, and successfully resisted a challenge from The Possible, but Lady Zetland, coming with a strong run, got her head in front opposite the outside Btand, and going on won by three-quarters of a length fr6m Euroclydon, with Defiance two lengths away third, a neck in front of The Possible, Quiltiri fifth, Epaulet sixth, Fabulist seventh, The «hrew eighth, Casket ninth, Voltigeur tenth, Lotion eleventh, and Black and Bed and Culverin the la3t two. Special to the New Zealand Mail. Otaki, November 9. The weather, although somewhat sultry, was in every othor respect all that could be desired from the point of view of the general public. The attendance Avas satisfactory, over 1000 persons being present, and, as good fields started in most of the events, speculation on the totalisator was brisk. The handicapper (Mr J. E. Henry) had set "punters" no very easy task in their selection of probable) winners, and from the dividends paid it will be seen that the successes of the favourities were very few. The officers of the club, headed by Mr Eagar, the genial secretary, had all the arrangements in excellent order, and no hitches occurred to mar the success of the meeting. The Ofcnki Brass Band performed a number of selections during th«j day, their efforts to please being . thoroughly appreciated, while Mr Ames and ; Lis assistants carried out their duties in con- ' nection with the totalisator in business-like style.
