MASTERTON - OPAKI MEETING.

Tho Masterton-Opaki people have succeeded in pulling off their event, and the results may bo considered satisfactory. As at Otaki, Steel King succeeded in pulling off tho back hurdles. Mr Pressor has got a good one in him. Scrap Iron was out of it; ho is not up to bis usual form, and has been decidedly a failure and a disappointment lately.

1 tipped Calinarine to win tho double at Otaki, and still had somo faith in him for Masterton, although ho only got second places at tho former meeting. I was therefore not surprised when ho won the Maiden Hack race, but tho Gem, who ought to have shown up, made a vary bad show, falling beforo well started going.

St. Patrick's Handicap, of one mile and a quarter, was won by fiber If. He was a favourite, and proved that the public's confidence was not misplaced.

Slaiden added to bis Otaki laurels by securing tho Flying Hack Handicap with 9st 4lb; he, paid another startling dividend of £l9 odd, and must be making a pot of money for his dusky owner. The Flying Handicap, which came after tho Flying Hack Handicap, was secured by another of Mr Howe's horses also; the favourite Voltaire boing tho winner very easily, and paying £2 3s. Sea Serpent was a bad second. Mr J. Prosser secured another win with First Result in tho Handicap Hack race. Sing Song, who was third in tho Hying Hack Handicap, managed to win the scurry which is just about up to his weight ; there were a good many starters of tho same class.
