MASTERTON.
The poll taken last week on tho proposal that the Mastcrton Town Lauds Trustees borrow .£2OOO for tho erection of a town hall was carried by a substantial majority.
During the month of May It births, five marriages and one death were recorded in Mastcrton.
A room in tho residence of Dr. Hoskiug was discovered to be in flames on Saturday evening. The fire, however, was extinguished before much damage was done. A meeting of settlers was held in the Empire Hotel on Saturday evening to consider the advisability of starting a dairy company. Tho meeting was addressed by Mr A. W. Hogg, M.I I P., Mr Sawers (late Government Dairy Export) and others, and a resolution was passed that a company be formed, to be known as "The Mastcrton Dairy Factory Company, Limited." A committee was appointed to prepare a report for a future mooting. Mr (J. E. Danicll has been elected chairman of tho Trust Lands Trust for the ensuiii'T year.
It ia probable that steps in the dire :tion of erecting a town hall will immediately be taken. Designs for a suitable building are shortly to be invited.
The poisoning of rabbits on Crown lands was commenced on Monday.
